The Wood County Dog Shelter announced it will start door-to-door dog license enforcement checks beginning in June.
These checks will continue through November, with staff starting in the northern part of Wood County.
The goal is to identify dogs that are unregistered or unlicensed, educate residents about Ohio’s dog license laws, and help dog owners register and license their pets.
Ohio law requires owners to register and license any dog older than three months with the county auditor. Owners must renew the registration during the statewide renewal period from December 1 to January 31. If the registration is not renewed on time, or if a license is not obtained within 30 days of acquiring a dog, owners may face fines.
This new program aims to improve compliance and keep the community informed about responsible pet ownership.
