The Evansville Fire Department is set to enhance its fire investigation capabilities with the arrival of a new K-9 Investigator, thanks to a partnership with Pet Food Center.
This specially trained dog will assist investigators in detecting tiny traces of ignitable liquids, such as gasoline and lighter fluid, which are vital for determining the cause of fires and preventing future incidents. This marks the first time in five years that the EFD will have a dog dedicated to supporting the investigation unit.
To celebrate the launch of the new K-9 Unit, Pet Food Center is hosting a family-friendly event on Saturday, June 7, from noon to 3 p.m. at their N. Green River Road location. The event will feature ladder truck tours for kids, dog-friendly activities, and food trucks for lunch.
Families and their pets are encouraged to attend for a day of fun and community engagement.
