Rocco, a three-year-old Doberman from Aberdeenshire, came dangerously close to death after accidentally swallowing his favorite purple ball. Owner Ray Howell noticed Rocco struggling to breathe and losing consciousness after a collision with the family’s other Doberman caused the ball to lodge in his throat.
Acting quickly, Ray rushed Rocco to Mintlaw Vets in Peterhead, where veterinary staff were able to push the ball clear, saving the dog’s life.
Rocco, rehomed from Orkney, had been inseparable from the purple ball since his arrival. Now, to prevent a repeat accident, he is only allowed larger toys.
Ray recalled, “When we met him off the ferry, this purple ball was his only possession. It was his favorite toy, and he carried it everywhere.” After the incident, he emphasized the importance of swift action: “I knew I needed help fast… By the time we got there, he was only semi-conscious.”
Rocco is now recovering well, safe from any further toy-related dangers.
