Sergeant Ian Partington Honoured for 50 Years in Police Dog Unit

A retiring Wiltshire Police sergeant has been honoured for 50 years of service with a national award.

Dog Unit Sergeant Ian Partington received the National Police Chiefs’ Council Lifetime Achievement Award. He was nominated for the award by Superintendent Steve Cox.

Supt Cox said, “Ian takes great pride in sharing his knowledge and skills. He loves seeing his handlers succeed in deployments, win awards at trials, and grow in their roles.”

Sgt Partington began his career with Merseyside Police in 1975. He joined Wiltshire Police in 1998 as the Dog Section Sergeant, having started working with police dogs in 1992.

During his time at Wiltshire, he served as a handler and the Force’s dog trainer, while holding the ranks of sergeant and inspector.

After 31 years as a police officer, Sgt Partington retired and continued as the dog section trainer. He played a key role training both the police dogs and their handlers.

Supt Cox added, “Ian is an amazing person — passionate, hard-working, and still delivering top-quality work.”

Sgt Partington received his award at the National Police Dog Trials earlier this month.
