The Providence Police Department has a new member: K-9 Busco, an English Labrador almost 2 years old.
Busco is trained to detect electronics. He is the first electronic detection dog in the history of the Providence Police and only the second in the state.
His handler, Detective Mitchell Guerra, said Busco was first trained as a service dog in Indiana. But then he changed careers and joined the Providence Police.
“Busco can find hidden electronic storage devices,” said Guerra.
In just three weeks on the job, Busco has already helped with several cases.
“We found discarded cellphones with Busco’s help,” Guerra said. “He also finds trackers placed on vehicles, like AirTags. Recently, he even found hidden cameras inside bathrooms.”
Busco’s skills will be very useful in future investigations.
