Cancer-Stricken Vizsla Saved by Daily Radiotherapy at £16M Animal Hospital

by Lisa

Specialist veterinary surgeons have been praised for saving the life of a much-loved Hungarian Vizsla named Mattdamon, who underwent an intensive course of daily radiotherapy to treat cancer.

Mattdamon—named after the puppet character in Team America—received 16 rounds of radiation therapy at Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Basildon, a £16 million, state-of-the-art animal hospital owned by Linnaeus.

The dog was diagnosed with a low-grade soft tissue sarcoma located on his front foot, just behind the heel pad. Due to the tumor’s difficult location, his primary veterinarian was unable to fully remove it through surgery.

He was then referred to Southfields, where head of oncology Sarah Mason led his treatment plan.

“Mattdamon had a low-grade soft tissue sarcoma which was incompletely removed from his front foot,” said Mason. “Due to the location, further surgery was not possible, so he needed 16 daily radiation treatments to reduce the chance of the tumour regrowing in future.”

Thanks to the advanced treatment and care, Mattdamon is now back on his feet and recovering well.
