A local shelter is urgently seeking a medical foster home for a dog named Spud, who was surrendered after being found “extremely emaciated.”
Spud, estimated to be about 10 years old, arrived at the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project severely underweight — at least 25 pounds below a healthy weight — and tested positive for Lyme disease. He was surrendered following a welfare check at a home on North Leavitt Road in Warren last Friday.
Shelter founder Jason Cooke expressed concern, noting that one owner told authorities they lacked the funds to provide veterinary care. Cooke emphasized, “Being poor is no excuse for neglecting veterinary care or depriving an animal of food.”
Cooke also confirmed that all information has been forwarded to the Warren City Law Department for potential legal action against the owners.
