As national parks across the country kick off their peak visitor season, a quiet corner of Denali National Park is celebrating something extra special — peak puppy season!
Denali welcomed five adorable new sled dog pups to its historic mushing crew: Squall, Storm, Graupel, Dew, and Fog. While they spent much of May getting used to life earth-side, these pups are now delighting fans worldwide on the popular Puppy Cam livestream.
Denali Kennels, part of the National Park Service for over 103 years, is the oldest sled dog kennel in the NPS and one of the oldest in the United States. Each year, the kennel breeds or adopts one litter of sled dogs, typically ranging from one to six or more pups, continuing a century-old tradition that supports the park’s famed mushing program.
