Campbell River dogs and their owners will soon have more room to roam.
The City of Campbell River, in partnership with School District 72 (SD72), has announced the opening of two temporary off-leash dog parks this summer. The agreement allows the sites to be used for up to five years.
Elle Brovold with the City of Campbell River said the growing number of registered dogs—over 2,800—has increased the need for more off-leash spaces.
“These new parks offer an immediate solution for owners to responsibly exercise their pets, while giving the city more time to develop long-term plans,” Brovold said.
The dog parks will be located next to the Robron Rotary Field House and at the corner of Petersen and Evergreen Roads.
Each site will feature waste bag dispensers, garbage bins, benches, and fenced access points to help ensure the safety of nearby schools and community users. Signs will also be posted to encourage respectful behavior and proper park etiquette.
SD72 Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Patrick welcomed the partnership.
“This agreement shows a collaborative, community-focused approach to shared land use,” he said, “and provides safe, designated areas for off-leash activity.”
