The Fifth Annual Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides took place Sunday, drawing more participants and dogs than ever before. This year’s event also marked the 40th anniversary of the national fundraiser, raising $3,161—significantly more than last year.
Funds raised help the Lions Foundation of Canada provide Dog Guides free of charge to Canadians with disabilities. Garry Beaudry, local organizer for the Prince Albert Lions Club, noted the event’s growing momentum despite competing community events.
“We’re still kind of the best kept secret in PA,” Beaudry said. “There’s a lot happening this weekend with walks and runs, but this is our National Walk Day, so we stick to that day. Each year, it gets a little better.”
Beaudry, who also serves as Chair of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides’ Board of Directors, started his two-year term in October 2024.
The Foundation aims to raise $1.6 million this year, with online donations surpassing $800,000 as of Sunday.
