Black Labrador Umber Chosen to Help Breed Next Generation of Guide Dogs

by Lisa

A puppy from Gwent has received one of Guide Dogs’ highest honors.

Umber, a black Labrador, has been selected as a stud dog. This means he will help produce future generations of guide dogs that change lives.

Umber spent his first year with volunteer puppy raiser Cara Moulton in Chepstow. His potential as a future guide dog father was quickly recognized.

Now 16 months old, Umber has moved to the Worcester area. He lives with Cara’s son, Haydn, so he can stay close to the Guide Dogs National Centre in Leamington Spa.

All three puppies raised by Cara have been black Labradors. The first, Hunter, has already qualified as a guide dog in Cumbria.
