Just 40 minutes from Wausau, Apex Angels and Warriors in Gleason is creating life-changing experiences for veterans through a powerful connection with rescued wolf-dogs.
The organization provides a safe haven for wolf-dogs while offering veterans a chance to find peace, purpose, and healing.
“You can come out here and have immediate healing, relief, and de-stress,” said volunteer Lucas Barr. “It’s a non-judgmental space—and you get to work alongside and bond with other veterans.”
Co-director Michelle Last encourages veterans to visit the sanctuary. Whether it’s helping care for the wolf-dogs or simply spending quiet time with them, the experience is deeply therapeutic.
Apex Angels and Warriors continues to grow as a unique refuge—one where both animals and veterans find a second chance.
