For the first time, Royal Caribbean’s two Chief Dog Officers, Rover and Sailor, met on board a cruise ship. The meeting between the golden retrievers took place in May aboard Icon of the Seas and was full of playful moments—tail wags, toy chasing, and shared treats.
The heartwarming encounter was filmed and shared across Royal Caribbean’s social media platforms.
“Today was the big day! Sailor boarded ICON to meet Rover and spend the day learning the ropes!” said Michael Bayley, president of Royal Caribbean International. “She met the Captain and senior officers, many of the crew and guests.”
Rover lives on Icon of the Seas and has served as Chief Dog Officer since the ship launched in January 2024. Sailor will soon take on a similar role aboard Star of the Seas, which sets sail from Port Canaveral in August.
As part of their duties, the dogs walk around the ships daily, meeting passengers and crew members. Their presence has been well-received, with many guests sharing their experiences online.
“We were fortunate to have met Rover and we have a photo of us with her! We got to pet her for a few minutes, she is so sweet and adorable,” wrote one user, lovesthebeach2, on Cruise Critic’s message board.
The initiative to have dogs on board has added a new level of charm to Royal Caribbean’s fleet, turning heads and warming hearts on every voyage.
