A longhaired German Shepherd named Josie is missing in the LeRoy area after a tragic house fire at Anderson Farm on 111th Avenue. The fire claimed the life of farm co-owner Donald Anderson and several of the dogs on the property.
Josie ran away during the chaos of the fire and has not been seen since. Elham Alayyoub, Anderson Farm’s co-owner, is currently recovering in the hospital and reached out to ABC 6 News to ask for the public’s help in finding the missing dog.
A volunteer group called The Retrievers has joined the search. The group, which specializes in finding lost dogs, issued a warning to the public not to approach Josie.
“Josie is a stunning, long coat German Shepherd missing in the Ostrander/LeRoy, MN area,” the group said in a statement. “She is shy and may run if approached. Please do not engage, chase, or call out to her.”
The Retrievers urge residents to quietly check their properties, including sheds, under decks, culverts, window wells, and any other places a scared dog might hide. Residents with security cameras are also asked to review footage for possible sightings.
Anyone who sees Josie is encouraged to report it immediately but not to attempt to catch her.
The community is rallying to assist in the search, hoping Josie can be brought home safely during this difficult time.
