Firefighters rescued a dog while battling a house fire in Southeast Washington, D.C. on Sunday afternoon.
The DC Fire and EMS Department reported the fire on the 1600 block of W Street Southeast at 12:49 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from a second-floor window.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and the dog inside the home was safely rescued. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
However, seven adults, three children, and the dog were left homeless due to the damage. The American Red Cross has been notified to assist the displaced family.
To allow firefighters to work safely, roads near the scene were temporarily closed.
