Residents of Vandiamman Koil Street in Padi Kuppam and Golden George Nagar in Mogappair East are facing growing threats from stray dogs, as efforts by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to control the population through Animal Birth Control (ABC) programs appear to be falling short.
Locals say the situation has worsened in recent months, with frequent barking and aggressive behavior disrupting daily life—especially on Justice Rathinavel Pandiyan Road, where nearly 20 dogs roam across 15 residential streets.
Motorists and pedestrians report being startled as the dogs often chase vehicles, particularly reacting to headlights. “They bark non-stop and suddenly dart at passing vehicles. It’s frightening, especially at night,” said one resident.
Joe Prince, a resident of Murugan Sulochana Street, said he was bitten by a stray two months ago. “More recently, my relative’s clothes were torn by one of the dogs. It’s getting out of hand,” he added.
Residents are urging the GCC to intensify ABC operations and take urgent measures to ensure public safety in the affected neighborhoods.
