A family in the south is warning other pet owners to act quickly if their dog is stung by a wasp—after their Miniature Dachshund, Bowie, collapsed without warning following a sting to the mouth.
Despite it being winter, Bowie was stung by a wasp and reacted severely. His owners said he “collapsed on the spot” and began to lose consciousness. His eyes flickered open and shut as they held him in their arms, fearing the worst.
The terrifying incident is a reminder that dogs can suffer dangerous, even life-threatening reactions to insect stings. While some pets may recover quickly, others—especially smaller breeds like Bowie—can go into anaphylactic shock if not treated immediately.
Veterinarians urge pet owners to watch for signs such as swelling, drooling, vomiting, breathing difficulty, or sudden collapse. If any of these symptoms occur, they say it’s critical to seek emergency veterinary care right away.
