A man from Connecticut has pleaded guilty to the gruesome killing of a pet bulldog in New Rochelle, New York. The disturbing case has shocked the Hudson Valley community and drawn strong reactions from animal welfare advocates.
Benjamin Tyler, 40, of New Milford, Connecticut, admitted this week to killing and dismembering a dog named Bruno. The bulldog belonged to a longtime acquaintance with whom Tyler had been staying in early December.
According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, Tyler strangled Bruno to death during the first week of December. He then dismembered the animal and scattered its remains around town.
Tyler pleaded guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and the felony charge of intentionally killing a companion animal. Both are serious offenses under New York State law.
Bruno’s death has sparked outrage across the region, with many struggling to understand how such a brutal act could be committed against a defenseless pet.
Authorities have not yet announced Tyler’s sentencing date, but he faces significant prison time for the violent crimes.
The case has also renewed calls for stronger enforcement of animal cruelty laws and harsher penalties for offenders.
