Dog trial competitors from Poverty Bay have been making their mark at the South Island and New Zealand championships. The event is taking place at Lochiel Station near Hanmer Springs.
The championships began on Sunday.
On the first day, Waingake’s Ruie Bridge and his dog Tui were among the top seven in event two, which is the short head and yard. They held this position at the noon update but fell off the leaderboard by 4 pm.
Later that day, Henry Hindmarsh and his dog Spot from Tolaga Bay reached the leaderboard in the same event. They remained there through the 9 am update on Tuesday.
In event three, the zig-zag hunt, Tolaga Bay’s Leo Edginton and his dog Skye were on the leaderboard at 4 pm Sunday. However, by noon Monday, they had dropped off.
