The animal rescue community is mourning the loss of Tammy Smith, the founder of PAWS, who passed away in April after a brave fight with cancer.
Smith was well known for her deep love for animals and her tireless efforts to rescue and care for them.
“She was very caring, open-minded, and generous with her time,” her husband, Jared Smith told. “She loved animals more than anything—just after her family.”
Supporters of Smith and the PAWS organization are now working to carry out her final wishes. Although the future of the nonprofit remains uncertain, they hope to find loving homes for the remaining rescue dogs and raise money to cover outstanding veterinary bills.
To help with those expenses, a dog wash fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lumberton Church of Christ. All proceeds will go toward paying off the vet bills and continuing the work Smith cared so deeply about.
