In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a stray dog was found with an iron rod deeply lodged in its head in the Narhari Nagar–Shubhangi Nagar area, near Manewada-Besa Road.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m., shocking residents and animal lovers across the city. The injured dog was seen running in panic and pain, with the construction-grade metal rod protruding from its skull.
Concerned locals quickly alerted Save Speechless, a city-based animal welfare group. Founder Smita Mire and her team rushed to the scene and safely captured the dog to provide emergency medical care.
“This was not an accident. Someone deliberately drove the rod into the dog’s head,” said Mire. “It was horrifying. The rod had gone 2.25 inches deep, close to the brain. When our vets began removing it, the dog bled from the nose, a sign of nerve damage. Thankfully, the surgery went well.”
Mire also described the scene when she arrived at 2 p.m. “The dog was screaming, bleeding badly, and running helplessly. It was heart-wrenching.”
