Marquette Township will soon begin stricter enforcement of its leash laws after the township board unanimously updated its animal control ordinance. Residents can expect to receive citations if their dogs are found off-leash on township property.
Township Manager Jon Kangas explained that this move responds to ongoing issues with off-leash dogs in public spaces.
Law enforcement officers already on site may issue tickets, with fines starting at $150 for the first offense and increasing up to $450 for the fourth and subsequent violations.
