Three days after Sexton Animal Health Center issued an alert for Louisiana Tech’s English bulldog mascot, Tech XX, both the center and the university confirmed the dog’s death. The 4-year-old bulldog died due to negligence by a former employee.
Dr. Patrick Sexton, who had cared for Tech XX since 2008, explained that the employee let the dog outside to relieve himself but failed to bring him back inside. When the employee finally checked on Tech XX, the dog had already died from heat stroke.
On that day, the temperature in Ruston, Louisiana, reached 102 degrees.
The Louisiana Tech athletic department addressed the incident in a statement on its official Facebook page.
