A dog training business in Bucks is set to dismantle its unlawful kennels and exercise area, following an enforcement order from Buckinghamshire Council. The facilities, located near the Grand Union Canal and M25 on Thorney Lane in Iver, were constructed without the necessary permissions.
The site has been used to train working dogs, including those for security and police work. However, after a planning application was submitted by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Gill, it was revealed that parts of the property had been developed without approval.
The proposal to remove the illegal structures includes the removal of dog pens numbered 12-17 and 21-24, a dog exercise area, a cage, and associated hardstanding. While some elements of the site, such as the shop, indoor training area, and specific dog pens, will remain, the unlawful developments are set to be dismantled.
In 2023, the council had certified the longstanding use of the site for dog training as lawful, though much of the hardstanding on the property, including areas for pens and an office, was deemed unlawful. A retrospective planning application for additional kennels and office space was rejected by the council in February 2024, as the site is within a green belt area.
The council issued an enforcement notice in July 2024, instructing the removal of decking, steps, and the breaking up of concrete structures. This will now be carried out as part of the approved plan to rectify the illegal developments.
