The Dogs Trust has officially launched the National Dog Survey 2025, inviting dog lovers, owners, and admirers from across the southwest to share their experiences. The survey aims to highlight the positive role dogs play in our lives and is the UK’s largest dog census.
Sponsored by the People’s Postcode Lottery, the 2025 survey focuses on the joys that dogs bring to their owners and the nation as a whole. It is an essential part of gathering insights into the lives of the UK’s 13 million dogs and their human companions.
Celebrating the Bond Between Dogs and Their Owners
Owen Sharp, CEO of Dogs Trust, emphasized the importance of this survey, noting that dogs are much more than pets—they are cherished family members. This year’s survey will delve deeper into how dogs provide comfort during tough times and enhance our happiest moments.
In the 2024 survey, nearly 373,000 dog owners participated, providing information about over 430,000 dogs. The survey revealed that 89% of dog owners reported being more active because of their pets, while 96% recognized the positive impact on their mental health. However, challenges were also highlighted, such as 52% of owners struggling with their dog’s barking and only 24% able to identify signs of a worried dog.
Sharp encouraged dog lovers in the southwest to take part in the survey, asking: How does your dog shape your everyday life? Is your dog a confidant, companion, or adventure partner? He invited participants to share their stories and celebrate the unique bond they share with their dogs.
Survey Details
The National Dog Survey is open to all individuals in the southwest, whether they own a dog, love dogs, or simply admire them. The survey can be completed online through the Dogs Trust website and takes just 15 minutes to finish. It will remain open until Tuesday, June 24.
Support from People’s Postcode Lottery
Judie McCourt, ambassador for the People’s Postcode Lottery, expressed her excitement about supporting the survey. As a dog mom herself, McCourt knows firsthand the deep bond between humans and dogs. She shared how the £26 million raised by Postcode Lottery players over the last decade has contributed to improving the wellbeing of dogs and their owners across the UK.
By participating in the survey, dog lovers can help improve the lives of dogs everywhere and support ongoing initiatives for better dog welfare.
