The fifth annual Barks and Rec fundraiser for Saint Francis Service Dogs is back, and it’s bringing a fun, interactive way for people to support the cause while doing what they love. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, biking, reading, or even juggling, participants are encouraged to take on a personal challenge of their choice — and pets are welcome to join in the fun.
The event kicked off on Monday and invites individuals to register for just $25. Participants can also boost their impact by encouraging friends and family to donate as they work toward completing their goals. All proceeds from the fundraiser go directly toward raising and training service dogs for individuals with disabilities.
“We do not charge for our dogs. And so it is really important that we’re able to raise the funds to create these amazing partnerships that really do change lives,” said Cabell Youell, the nonprofit’s executive director.
This year, the event organizers have set a $65,000 fundraising goal, and they are already just $15,000 away from reaching it. The challenge will run through Sunday, May 18, so there’s still plenty of time for supporters to sign up and make a difference.
