As cold temperatures drive many people indoors, local animal shelters continue their critical work to provide warmth and care for pets in need. Animal shelters, such as the Animal Charity of Ohio, are facing a significant strain due to an increasing number of animal intakes, especially in the winter months. This surge has placed a considerable demand on resources, particularly dog food, and the shelter is now reaching out for help from the community.
Executive director Jane MacMurchy of the Animal Charity of Ohio shared the shelter’s current challenge: “In the last few weeks, intakes have been incredibly high. We have taken in 17 dogs in just a few days, bringing the total number of dogs in our care to around 145.”
While the shelter has enough food to get through the next couple of days, they will need to replenish their supplies soon. MacMurchy emphasized how essential community support is for keeping the animals fed and healthy. “We rely heavily on the community to help us meet the needs of the animals, and this is just another way you can assist us in these critical times,” she said.
The shelter provides a mix of Purina Dog Chow Chicken, Purina Dog Chow Beef, and Purina One Chicken & Rice for the dogs. To make a difference, the shelter has posted wish lists on Amazon and Chewy for those who wish to donate. Donations can be dropped off at or shipped to their location at 8469 Southern Blvd, Building 3, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
