A South Florida dog is on the path to recovery just one day after being found tied to a stop sign outside a fire station. Now, the animal rescue group caring for her is asking the public for help to support Sweetie and other abandoned animals.
Firefighters at Fort Lauderdale Fire Station 47 discovered the tiny dog late Wednesday night. It remains unknown who left her behind.
Sweetie was immediately taken in by Saving Sage Animal Rescue. Volunteer Thomas Borello described her condition as severe. “She was completely matted and neglected for a long time,” Borello said.
The rescue team quickly began grooming Sweetie and providing medical and dental care. “She’s terrified of everything, but she’s starting to accept affection,” Borello added. “With love and care, we hope to bring out her true personality and find her a happy home.”
Sadly, Sweetie’s case is not unique. Earlier this week, two more dogs were abandoned at the shelter during heavy rain. The rescue is now full and urgently needs food and supplies.
“We’re doing all we can for these animals, but we need community support,” Borello said. “Sweetie’s had a rough life, but we’re determined to give her a fresh start.”
Volunteers at Saving Sage work tirelessly to give every animal the best chance at a loving forever home.
