An emaciated stray dog recently performed a small miracle in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, leading local resident Stacey Cook four miles through dense woods to a hidden litter of 10 pit-mix puppies.
Instead of turning away, Stacey and her husband, Max, opened the doors of their already-crowded 400-square-foot home to all 11 dogs, adding to their remarkable rescue family of 21 dogs and 15 cats — every one of them saved from the streets.
The couple, who moved to Ruston from the U.K. six years ago, found their mission shortly after arriving, when a tornado struck and they rescued their first dog. Since then, they’ve dedicated their lives to giving abandoned animals a second chance, converting their home and three-acre yard into a sanctuary.
“The joy they bring to our lives outweighs anything else,” Stacey shared. “We are more than willing and dedicated to keeping them safe and well loved, no matter the stress it brings us.”
Lincoln Parish faces a significant stray animal crisis, but thanks to kind souls like the Cooks, some stories have happy endings filled with hope, warmth, and wagging tails.
