Families along Blackman Road in Rutherford County experienced strong winds during Tuesday afternoon storms, including the Smotherman family. Makenna Smotherman recounted how their dog’s unusual barking and jumping alerted her mother, who quickly took shelter in a closet. Moments later, a tree fell onto their home.
“I just thank God, really,” Smotherman told News 2. “I thank God that everybody is okay and nobody got hurt and that we were still able to get into the house and get the dog. Thank goodness for the dog!”
The family credits their dog’s alertness with keeping them safe during the unexpected incident.
