Kaylie Staniland believed she had found the perfect American Bulldog when she adopted Charlie. She quickly fell in love with the dog, who became a cherished part of her family.
However, as Charlie grew bigger, Kaylie grew concerned.
Charlie is now one year old and stands 25 inches tall. This size classifies him as an XL Bully—a breed banned starting in 2024.
It is illegal to own or keep an XL Bully without a valid Certificate of Exemption.
Realizing the situation, Kaylie contacted Cleveland Police’s dog legislation officer to have Charlie assessed.
Following the evaluation, Charlie was granted an interim exemption, allowing him to remain with Kaylie for now.
