Brookline Police Warn of Aggressive Coyote Behavior After Dog Attack

by Lisa

Brookline police are alerting residents after two coyotes attacked a dog Monday night in the Sargent Beechwood area. The dog was on a walk when the animals emerged from a wooded area, prompting growing concern among neighbors.

Residents like the Guzman family say they’ve long seen coyotes in the area, but the animals now appear increasingly bold and unafraid of humans. “It’s definitely concerning that now they’re more used to humans… you don’t know what else can happen,” said Gabby Guzman.

Surveillance footage from the neighborhood supports their fears, including a November video showing a coyote chasing a woman into her home and another capturing a coyote striding past a front door.

With the Brookline Conservation Land Trust nearby, wildlife sightings aren’t unusual — but the aggressive behavior is raising alarms, especially for families with small children and pets.

Police are urging pet owners to keep animals leashed, remain vigilant, and avoid wooded areas at night. “We do share a space with them,” said Sebastian Guzman, “but it’s our responsibility to protect our pets.”
