Silverthorne Veterinary Hospital has reopened with eight times more space than before, addressing a critical need for pet care in Colorado mountain communities.
Owner and veterinarian Justin Milizio said the new facility allows them to significantly increase the number of surgical procedures and patients they can handle daily. It also expands their emergency services.
“Our first hospital was just 1,000 square feet on the ground floor,” Milizio explained. “This new space is 8,200 square feet — not including an additional 4,500 square feet upstairs for employee housing.”
The upstairs area includes three apartments with eight bedrooms total, designed to keep staff close by. This supports the hospital’s goal of providing 24/7 emergency medical care for pets.
Milizio emphasized the hospital’s mission to reduce the need for pet owners to travel all the way to Denver for emergency treatment. “This hospital is built to expand hours, equipment, staff, and the ability to care for animals locally,” he said.
The expanded facility marks a major step forward in improving veterinary care access for pets in the region.
