Library Launched for Dog Park Members in Forest Park

by Lisa

Forest Park Public Library and the village’s recreation board have launched a “Dog Library” at the Forest Park Dog Park, located at 632 Circle Ave. The Dog Library offers free items for park members, including toys, treats, poop bags, and dog-themed books. The initiative aims to support over 90 members of the dog park and foster community engagement.

The Dog Library resembles a traditional little free library but is positioned lower to the ground, allowing dogs to participate in choosing items. A notable feature includes a tube that dispenses tennis balls and a decorative dog profile honoring the builder’s late dog, Greg. The structure was built by Geoff Binns-Calvey, whose wife, Amy, chairs the village’s recreation board.

The project was inspired by a previous pet bandana giveaway hosted by the library, which received positive community feedback. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 10, 2025, included a dog parade from the library to the park, with participation from residents, officials, and Animal Care League representatives.

The Dog Library operates on a take-one, leave-one basis, encouraging donations of clean and usable dog supplies. Permits for the dog park are required, with fees varying by residency and age.
