Kyle Richards is mourning the loss of her 15-year-old German Shepherd, River, who passed away on May 9, 2025. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to her beloved dog, describing River as “the most loyal dog I have ever known.”
Richards revealed that River was a foster fail, meaning she initially fostered the dog before ultimately adopting her. River was a constant companion, always by her side — waiting for her at the window every day, sitting on the bath mat while Richards showered, and sleeping in her room to ensure she was always in sight.
In her tribute, Richards shared details of River’s final day, explaining how the family spent the day outdoors with her and her siblings, making a circle around the dog as she struggled with movement in her back legs. Despite the difficulty, River went up to each family member to nuzzle them before passing peacefully surrounded by love. Richards expressed gratitude for the dog’s peaceful passing but acknowledged the pain of her absence.
“I’m grateful she’s at peace and no longer suffering, but her absence will no doubt be painful. We love you, River,” Richards concluded the tribute.
Many celebrities and animal lovers shared their condolences in the comments, offering Richards support. Fellow RHOBH star Bozoma Saint John wrote, “I’m so sorry to hear this, Kyle… I’m sending you love,” while Kris Jenner and Chrishell Stause also expressed their sympathy.
