Queen Camilla had a delightful encounter with a “attention-seeking” guide dog, Haworth, during the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the season.
While attending the event, the Queen made friends with Jeanette Binns’ labrador, who immediately rolled onto his back after receiving a chin rub from Her Majesty, seemingly asking for a belly rub. The playful gesture left those nearby amused as the dog, in true attention-seeking fashion, made sure to get some extra affection.
“Well, I’m very honoured to meet him,” the Queen said, describing the dog as “lovely.”
Jeanette Binns, who works as an equalities officer for Lancashire County Council, laughed as she explained that Haworth “did pile it on a bit” with his belly-up request. “He knows how to impress,” she added, referring to his antics. “I’ve always said he’s an attention-seeker, but he’s definitely gone up a notch with this.”
Ms. Binns, from Preston, Lancashire, was one of around 8,000 invited guests at the royal garden party, where community leaders, charity workers, and other influential figures enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea on the palace grounds.
During the event, the King and Queen were joined by other members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who also spent time meeting guests.
In true royal tradition, the garden party featured about 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches, and 20,000 slices of cake, providing ample refreshments for the distinguished guests.
