An Ansonia police officer reportedly discharged multiple rounds at an approaching dog while responding to a call, as confirmed by local law enforcement.

The Ansonia Police Department disclosed that a patrol officer was in the process of investigating a report involving a suspicious individual in the vicinity of Lester and High Streets at noon on Tuesday.

According to police accounts, the said suspicious individual ventured into the yard of a nearby residence and proceeded to the rear of the property. As the officer pursued the individual, he found himself confronted by a German Shepherd, which resided at the location.

When the officer attempted to retreat from the situation, the dog reportedly advanced toward him, resulting in the officer losing his balance. In response to the perceived threat, the officer discharged several rounds from his firearm, none of which struck the dog, as reported by law enforcement officials.

Authorities indicated that the officer sustained minor injuries during his efforts to evade the dog. Subsequently, the suspicious individual was located and informed officers that he had been merely traversing the yard as a shortcut to reach another destination.
