Italian pet food manufacturer Farmina Pet Foods is bringing its first-ever U.S. production plant to Rockingham County, marking a major investment in the Triad region.
The company will invest $115 million in a new facility in Reidsville, creating up to 300 new jobs and introducing cutting-edge technology and global expertise to North Carolina’s manufacturing sector.
Dr. Angelo Russo, owner and CEO of Farmina, said the decision to choose North Carolina was influenced by the state’s welcoming business environment, potential for economic growth, and skilled local workforce.
North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger emphasized the plant’s broader significance, noting changes in consumer behavior:
“Fewer people are having kids, but more are getting dogs and cats. It’s a shift that’s fueling the pet industry, and people care deeply about their pets.”
Berger praised Farmina as a trusted, high-end brand, saying its arrival will bring “good, high-paying manufacturing jobs” and help strengthen the local economy.
The plant will be equipped with advanced packaging and preservation technology. According to Loris Rinaldi, Farmina’s North America CEO, every bag of pet food will be nitrogen-packed to maintain freshness until it’s opened.
Rinaldi added that the Reidsville facility is built with expansion in mind:
“It’s designed to eventually triple current production capacity. This investment is for the 300 people who will run the plant 24/7.”
The new plant is a significant step in Farmina’s North American growth strategy and represents a strong commitment to high-quality pet nutrition and local economic development.
