European Pet Food Market Hits €29.3 Billion in 2023

by Lisa

The European pet food market reached a total value of €29.3 billion (approximately US$33.7 billion) in 2023, marking a 9% growth from the previous year. This revenue came from selling 9.1 million metric tonnes (about 10.03 million tons) of pet food and treats across Europe.

More than 400 pet food companies, operating in at least 500 production facilities from Albania to the United Kingdom, contributed to this volume, according to the Fédération Européenne de l’Industrie des Aliments pour Animaux Familiers (FEDIAF) in their 2025 Facts and Figures report.

Although the report was published in 2025, it features data from 2023 due to changes in FEDIAF’s data collection and reporting process in 2024. The update aimed to harmonize figures across 15 national pet associations and 41 countries for better accuracy.

FEDIAF explained, “Our list of European countries has evolved. Russia is no longer included, and we added new countries previously not covered to ensure data includes all European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and most of the Council of Europe member states. The report now covers 41 of the 48 Council of Europe members.”

This revised approach provides a more comprehensive and up-to-date view of the European pet food industry’s size and growth.
