Governor Kay Ivey officially introduced Huntley, a three-year-old female Yellow Labrador Retriever, as Alabama’s new First Dog on Monday.
Huntley now calls the Alabama Governor’s Mansion home, where she lives alongside Governor Ivey. The governor expressed her excitement about the newest member of her family, describing Huntley as well-mannered, playful, and a joyful presence at the residence.
“Huntley is amazing, and I am excited to introduce her to my fellow Alabamians,” Governor Ivey said. “She and I enjoy practicing her commands and tricks, playing with her toys, and we have even had a chance to break away for a weekend at the lake.”
According to the governor’s office, Huntley has quickly settled into her new surroundings. Beyond her home at the mansion, she will occasionally accompany Governor Ivey to the State Capitol, providing a friendly face in the governor’s office.
Huntley continues a proud tradition of gubernatorial pets who serve as informal ambassadors, often helping to promote animal welfare initiatives and connect with the public in meaningful ways.
