Eight-Year-Old Boy in Goole Recovering After Dog Attack Surgery

by Lisa

An eight-year-old boy from Goole is making a steady recovery after undergoing extensive surgery for injuries sustained in a dog attack earlier this month.

Weston Kiesler was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary on May 11, following the incident, where he received hours of reconstructive surgery to treat severe injuries to his face and arm. His mother, Vicky, reported that Weston is now recovering at home, though he initially struggled with significant pain after the operation. “He’s improving every day,” she said. “He was in a lot of pain at first, but the hospital staff were amazing, and they’ve been so supportive.”

Weston’s treatment included dissolvable stitches in his face, which will be removed within two weeks, as well as a cast on his broken arm. The family is also preparing for the removal of a wire from his arm in the future, though they have yet to inform Weston of the additional procedure.

The attack left Weston with multiple facial lacerations, and his bottom lip was severely injured. Despite the traumatic experience, Vicky remains grateful that the injuries were not worse. “I was in shock at the time,” she shared. “It felt like autopilot, just getting him to the hospital. But after surgery, I had a moment to reflect, and it could have been much worse.”

Weston’s siblings, ranging in age from two to 19, were deeply shaken by the attack. Vicky mentioned that her daughters were particularly upset by their brother’s injuries, with her 14-year-old feeling especially distressed. “They had never seen anything like this before,” she explained.

The community has rallied around Weston, offering support through fundraising, cards, and gifts. “It’s been really heartwarming to see how many people have reached out,” Vicky said. “Weston has been touched by all the kindness.”

In the aftermath, Weston has become cautious around dogs, particularly the family’s Staffordshire bull terrier, though he is gradually regaining his confidence.

The incident is currently under investigation by Humberside Police. It took place at around 9:55 am on Sunday, May 11, in Morley Street, Goole. A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog, but he has since been released on conditional bail. The dog, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
