An eight-year-old boy from Goole, Weston Kiesler, is recovering after undergoing several hours of reconstructive surgery following a dog attack on May 11. The incident left Weston with serious injuries to his face and arm, but his mother, Vicky, reported that he is “recovering well” after surgery at Leeds General Infirmary, which specializes in pediatric trauma.
Weston had to undergo surgery for multiple lacerations to his face, including a severe injury to his bottom lip, which was nearly torn off. He also suffered a broken arm, which is in a cast and will require a follow-up procedure to remove a wire inserted during surgery. Despite the pain he initially experienced, Vicky said Weston is improving and managing well, with antibiotics and regular pain relief to aid his recovery.
The family, who has five children in total, has been overwhelmed with support from the local community. People have been sending cards, gifts, and chocolates to Weston, and there has been fundraising to help with his recovery. Although Weston is still cautious around dogs, particularly larger ones, due to the trauma from the attack, his family is reassuring him.
The dog involved in the incident is believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and the owner, a 54-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. The dog was seized by authorities, and Humberside Police are continuing their investigation into the attack.
Weston’s siblings, who are aged between two and 19, were understandably upset by the incident. His 14-year-old sister, in particular, was especially affected by the sight of Weston’s injuries. Despite the trauma, the family is focusing on Weston’s recovery, supported by the community’s kindness during this difficult time.
