Atlanta, GA – After an agonizing three-week ordeal of uncertainty and worry, a dog owner’s anguish has come to an end as her missing pet was discovered safe and sound at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Airport officials confirmed the heartwarming reunion on Saturday.

Paula Rodriguez, a passenger on Delta Air Lines, was reunited with her 6-year-old dog, Maia, who had gone missing in August at the world’s busiest airport.

According to a post on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Maia was found by the airport’s operations team, hiding near the north cargo facilities. Despite her exhaustion, she appeared to be in good health and was promptly transported to a veterinarian. It is expected that she will soon be reunited with her owner, bringing a sigh of relief to all involved.

The ordeal began on August 18 when Rodriguez and Maia embarked on a journey from their home in the Dominican Republic to California for a planned two-week vacation. However, upon their layover in Atlanta, Rodriguez received the disheartening news from border patrol officials that her tourist visa did not meet the necessary requirements. Her visa was subsequently canceled, and she was informed that she would need to return home on the next available flight.

With the next flight to Punta Cana not scheduled until the following day, Rodriguez was confronted with the distressing prospect of spending the night in a detention center, separated from her cherished canine companion.
