Disturbing CCTV footage has surfaced depicting a harrowing incident where a young girl faced a vicious attack by a dog while attempting to enter a lift in an upscale neighborhood of Noida, India.
The footage reveals the lift door opening, allowing the dog to rush in and immediately pounce on the unsuspecting child. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when a courageous neighbor intervened, forcefully pushing the girl back and fending off the dog with swift actions. Subsequently, the girl managed to shut the lift door, clutching her injured hand in pain as tears streamed down her face. She exited the lift upon reaching the ground floor. Despite the alarming nature of the incident, authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the attack.
This occurrence adds to a concerning trend of dog-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, a region bordering the urban area of New Delhi. Recent reports highlight a similar incident involving a German Shepherd charging at a six-year-old girl as she rode her bicycle within an apartment complex in Ghaziabad.
In response to escalating concerns, the Department of Animal Husbandry in India took proactive measures in March, urging states to prohibit the sale and breeding of 23 banned dog breeds, including Pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs. The directive further mandated the sterilization of pets belonging to these breeds.
Citing feedback from citizen forums and Animal Welfare Organizations, the Animal Husbandry Department emphasized the necessity of restricting ownership of certain dog breeds. Additionally, recent statistics from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare underscore the severity of the situation, with reported incidents of dog bites escalating by 26.5% year-on-year in India, surging from 2.18 million cases in 2022 to 2.75 million cases in 2023.
