A woman was hospitalized after being bitten on the face by a homeless man’s dog in Liverpool city center while attempting to offer assistance by giving him some change.
The incident reportedly occurred when the woman leaned in to offer help to the owner of a Staffordshire bull terrier. Merseyside police confirmed receiving a report of the dog attack and subsequently arrested a man on suspicion of having a dangerously out-of-control dog, according to the Liverpool Echo. The woman, described as being in her 50s, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness described the incident as “upsetting,” recounting how the dog attacked the woman’s face and refused to let go. The woman was provided with tissue to stem the bleeding, and the eyewitness noted the distress experienced by their eight-year-old daughter who witnessed the event.
Authorities responded to a report of the dog attack on Church Street in the city center on Saturday, April 6. A 56-year-old man, described as having no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of failing to comply with a control of dog order and being the owner in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
