Conservation Officers are investigating a reported cougar attack on a dog near a trailer park in Port McNeill on the morning of Thursday, May 29.
Residents say the incident occurred behind the IGA in the 1700-block of Campbell Way. According to a post on the Town of Port McNeill’s Facebook page, the cougar had been hiding under a trailer when a neighbor’s dog noticed it and gave chase.
The cougar then attacked the dog, but the dog was able to scare the wild animal away.
While full details have not yet been confirmed, officials are urging local residents to be cautious, especially with children and pets in the area.
The Conservation Officer Service is currently investigating and has not released additional information at this time.
