China’s First Corgi Police Dog Gains Attention After Snatching Sausage from Child

by Lisa

Fuzai, China’s first-ever Corgi police dog, has made headlines again, this time for snatching a sausage from a child during his patrol duties. The incident, which occurred in April, captured the public’s attention and highlighted the playful nature of this pint-sized, yet hardworking pup.

Based at a police dog training centre in Weifang, Shandong province, Fuzai is known not only for his impressive skills in explosive detection, vehicle inspection, and obstacle navigation, but also for his mischievous behavior. At just one-and-a-half years old, Fuzai has already participated in major public events like the Weifang International Kite Festival and has amassed over 400,000 followers online.

Fuzai’s Journey to Becoming a Police Dog

Fuzai was discovered at just two months old by police dog trainer Zhao Qingshuai, who was immediately struck by the puppy’s curiosity and natural instincts. After completing his training, Fuzai officially joined the police force in October 2024. Since then, he has been actively involved in security operations and public engagement activities.

However, Fuzai’s career has not been without some playful mishaps. Earlier this year, in January, the Corgi was temporarily disciplined after being caught napping on duty and even urinating in his food bowl. This behavior resulted in a short break from treats and toys. Despite this, the public found the incidents more amusing than concerning, with the Weifang Public Security Bureau gaining significant online attention and a loyal following.

The Sausage Snatching Incident

The most recent event that has propelled Fuzai into the media spotlight occurred during an April patrol. While on duty, Fuzai grabbed a grilled sausage from a young girl, much to the amusement of onlookers. The moment was caught on camera as Fuzai took a bite and wandered off, leaving the crowd in stitches.

The girl’s mother later reassured the media that her daughter was not upset and happily finished the rest of her sausage. Despite the light-hearted nature of the incident, Fuzai’s trainer, Zhao Qingshuai, issued a public apology, acknowledging that Fuzai had broken the rule of never accepting food from the public. Zhao promised to work on improving Fuzai’s impulse control to prevent such incidents in the future.

Public Response

While some have expressed amusement at Fuzai’s antics, others have come to his defense. Social media users rallied behind the adorable Corgi, with many commenting on how difficult it would be to stay upset with such a cute dog. “With a dog as cute as Fuzai, how could anyone stay mad?” one user wrote.

Despite the playful misstep, Fuzai continues to be a beloved figure both in Weifang and across China, further solidifying his status as the country’s first Corgi police dog.
