WNY Food 4 Paws, a nonprofit focused on addressing pet food insecurity in Western New York, has received a $10,000 grant from Bailey and Friends, a trust within the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase dry cat food, which will be distributed through 33 food and pet pantry partners in the region. This effort aims to help vulnerable families keep their pets healthy and at home.
Jackie Blachowski, president of WNY Food 4 Paws, expressed gratitude for the grant. She said, “We are thankful to Bailey and Friends for this generous support. It will help us meet the growing demand for pet food assistance and reduce pet surrenders caused by financial difficulties. This strengthens the bond between pets and their families during tough times.”
Many individuals facing food insecurity in Western New York struggle to care for their pets as well. National studies show that over half of pet owners in this situation have considered giving up their pets due to cost concerns. WNY Food 4 Paws’ mission is to prevent this heartbreaking choice. This grant arrives at a crucial time, allowing the organization to restock dry cat food supplies and expand its outreach.
Erica Dayton, executive director of the Golisano Foundation, praised the nonprofit’s work. “We applaud WNY Food 4 Paws for helping families keep their pets. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and their animals. This program helps families provide care with dignity and compassion.”
Since 2022, WNY Food 4 Paws has partnered with human service providers, food and pet pantries, and animal welfare groups to distribute pet food and supplies to those in need. The organization has helped thousands of families keep their pets and continues to grow through strong community collaboration.
